UNICEF is proud to launch Sustainable Actions for Ecosystems Restoration in Pakistan (SAFER Pakistan), together with the Federal Ministry of Climate Change, Pakistan, provincial governments, ICIMOD and UN Women, with support from the Adaptation Fund. The Inception workshop took place from 7-8th September in Islamabad. The project aims to help communities and institutions adapt to the growing impacts of climate change.
Water is one of the primary ways in which the impacts of climate change are felt, placing increasing pressure on the essential drinking water and sanitation services that communities depend on. Threats to both surface and groundwater security have knock-on effects on sanitation and hygiene services as well, especially women and girls, persons with disabilities, and vulnerable communities.

Under SAFER Pakistan, UNICEF will support the Government of Sindh and Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to demonstrate practical nature-based solutions and sustainable groundwater management to improve the climate resilience of drinking water and sanitation services for vulnerable communities.

UNICEF will be working closely with federal and provincial governments, communities, ICIMOD and UN Women to help communities, especially children and women, adapt to climate risks.
