Access to safe and reliable drinking water remains a critical challenge across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Despite ongoing investments in infrastructure and service delivery, gaps persist in sustainability, affordability, and user behavior. Understanding these challenges through applied research is essential to inform policy, improve service delivery models, and ensure long-term resilience.
WASHNet encourages academia and research institutions to explore the following priority areas:
- Why are people not willing to pay for the services they receive?
- Government managed vs privately managed vs Community managed service delivery model
- Water consumption pattern from households, institutions, service stations etc.
- What is the real cost of unsafe drinking water to cities in KP?
- Solar powered DWSS, double edge sword?
- Viable water supply Models? Continuous Water Supply vs intermittent water supply etc.
These research areas aim to bridge the gap between academic inquiry and policy implementation. By generating locally relevant, evidence-based insights, academia can play a pivotal role in shaping sustainable and resilient drinking water systems in the province.
