The Local Government, Elections & Rural Development Department (LGE&RDD) is the provincial government department responsible for implementing the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Local Government Act, overseeing and strengthening the network of local councils and rural institutions across the province. It plays a central role in coordinating local governance, service delivery, community infrastructure, and rural development programs. Through a wide network of village and neighbourhood councils, the department supports basic services at the grassroots, including water supply and small sanitation works, cleanliness and village infrastructure, community development planning, and management of municipal services. LGE&RDD also administers local elections, sets policy frameworks for local bodies, and works with other government and development partners to ensure effective public service delivery in both urban and rural areas.
