While its mandate extends across all areas of healthcare delivery, the department also plays an important role in supporting Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) initiatives. It contributes through disease surveillance related to water-borne illnesses, hygiene promotion campaigns, infection prevention and control measures in health facilities, and coordination with other departments to reduce public health risks associated with unsafe water and poor sanitation. By linking preventive healthcare with environmental health measures, the department supports improved health outcomes across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
